Complete Final Draft

This is the one step where you'll need to wait on Mommy before you can proceed. Once she has completed the Teacher Writing Skills Checklist for your First Revision, you can use those editing notes to make a Final Draft!

We want to have a record of your writing process at each step, so do not make changes to your First Revision or delete any of Mommy's comments. Instead, follow these steps:

  1. Open your First Revision in Google Docs. (You should see comments from Mommy on the right-hand side).
  2. Click on the "File" menu in the top left corner, and then "Make a copy".
  3. Check "Copy comments and suggestions" and click "OK."
  4. A new window will open with a duplicate of your First Revision, except the file name will say
"Copy of [Your Name], Lesson # - First Revision"
  5. Highlight and delete the words "Copy of" and change "First Revision" to "Final Draft".
  6. In the document itself, update your heading. Change the date to today's date. Change the version from "First Revision" to "Final Draft".
  7. Now you can begin making revisions and edits to your document! Read over each comment and make changes to your document as needed, then check off the comment so you can keep track of which ones you've resolved. Also, look over the Teacher Writing Skills checklist to make sure you've addressed each item that needs work.
  8. When you have finished your Final Draft, share the Google Doc with Mommy and then print a copy to turn in along with your Teacher Writing Skills Checklist.
A few hints on Google Docs ...

A) Click "File".

B) Choose "Make a copy".

C) Check the box for "Copy comments and suggestions." (The box for "Share it with the same people" will automatically be checked. That's fine.)

D) Click "OK".

E) In the new document's file name, remove the words "Copy of".

F) Change "First Revision" to "Final Draft" in the file name.

G) In the heading, update the date and change "First Revision" to "Final Draft".

H) Highlighted sections indicate related comments. Click on a highlighted section to see the connected comment.

I) Once you've made the necessary changes suggested in a comment, click the checkmark to hide it so you can keep track of what you've completed and what is still left to do!

(Don't forget to share your Final Draft with Mommy, and print a copy to turn in with your Teacher Writing Skills Checklist.)
